No one ever questions movies centered around straight people, there’s millions of them. No one ever stops and says “Does the world really NEED this?” They just get to have it, no questions asked. But as soon as a movie is centered around characters that are LGBTQ+ people start to ask “Do we really NEED this? Is this movie solving all of our problems? But these flaws and that’s not realistic, is it? Too much of this and not enough of that. & Do we really NEED this?” And it’s so frustrating. Because why can’t we just have our stories told? Why can’t we just have characters that are LGBTQ+ just because. Why do our movies have to solve all of the worlds problems? Why do we have to explain ourselves every time we dream to be represented? Why can’t we just have movies & representation just because? Stop asking if we really NEED it, we fucking DESERVE it.
